An Analysis of Beauty in Emily Dickinson’s Poetry
Abstract
Emily Dickinson is one of the most famous American poets, whose poetry is known as simple, short and pithy, but with rich connotation, and full of charm. This thesis analyzes the beauty reflected on Emily Dickinsons poetry. In Emily Dickinson’s poetry, the image flower, most often, is the incarnation of the poet herself and her poetry, while the sea indicates what she loves. Through the use of simile, which is multi-faceted and new, Dickinson successfully transfers her emotion and vividly depicts the natural phenomenon; and sound symbolism creates a kind of atmosphere which echoes the mood of her poem beyond the poem itself. Her diction is laconic, stripped to the fewest words to gain power; and the subjects in her poems are with boundless implication. The careful and serious reading of Dickinson’s poetry can give us entrance into the poet’s own realm of life.

摘 要
美國(guó)著名女詩(shī)人艾米莉•狄金森的詩(shī)歌語(yǔ)言樸素、短小精悍，但讀起來(lái)卻是內(nèi)涵豐富、耐人尋味、充滿魅力。本文旨在賞析體現(xiàn)于艾米莉•狄金森詩(shī)歌中的3美。在狄金森很多詩(shī)歌中花的意象其實(shí)就是詩(shī)人自身及其詩(shī)的代言人；而海的意象則指示了詩(shī)人所追求的美。通過(guò)豐富而新穎的比喻，狄金森成功地表達(dá)了自己的內(nèi)心、生動(dòng)地描繪出各種自然現(xiàn)象；而聲音象征則顯示了其詩(shī)歌基調(diào)。其詩(shī)措辭簡(jiǎn)潔，從最少的用詞中獲取無(wú)限的力量；其詩(shī)歌主題充盈著無(wú)窮的暗示。認(rèn)真品讀其詩(shī)歌為我們開(kāi)啟了了解狄金森人生的門(mén)戶。
