To prevent our dog, Lacy, from pestering visitors to our house, my mother often massaged her as she lounged beneath the kitchen table, her favorite resting spot. One day a contractor came over to talk about a home-improvement project.
為避免我們的狗，萊希，糾纏來訪的客人，我母親常在愛犬喜歡呆的地方，即餐桌下面，摩昵它。一天，一個建筑商來談居室裝潢工程。
As he and my mother sat across the table discussing the renovations, my mother slipped off her shoes and mindlessly soothed Lacy with her feet.
在這人和我母親坐在餐桌邊談居室的修茸時，我母親滑脫了她的`鞋子，開始不經(jīng)意地用腳摩蹭起萊希來。
My mother had been talking for about a half-hour when to her great embarrassment she heard Lacy bark outside the front door.

A doctor was having an affair with his nurse. Shortly afterward, she told him she was pregnant. Not wanting his wife to know he gave the nurse a sum of money and asked her to go to Italy and have the baby there.
有一個醫(yī)生和他的護(hù)士有一腿，后來他的護(hù)士告訴他，她懷孕了。醫(yī)生不想讓太太知道，于是乎他給了護(hù)士一筆錢，并告訴她帶著錢去義大利把小孩生下來。
"But how will I let you know the baby is born?" she asked. He replied,
護(hù)士問說: 那我要如何讓你知道小孩子出生了呢 ?
"Just send me a postcard and write "spaghetti" on the back." "I'll take care of expenses." Not knowing what else to do, the nurse took the money and fly to Italy.
醫(yī)生回答：就寄個名信片，上面寫個 "義大利面條" 在背面就可以了，我會照顧你所有的費(fèi)用的，這護(hù)士于是拿了錢飛往義大利。
Six months went by and then one day the doctor's wife called him at the office and explained.
六個月過去了，有一天醫(yī)生的太太打電話給醫(yī)生說：
"Dear, you received a very strange postcard in the mail today from Europe, and I don't understand what it means."
親愛的，我收到一張明信片，從歐洲寄來的，但不知道講些什么?
"The doctor said "Just wait until I get home and I will explain it to you".
醫(yī)生跟太太說道，等我回去后再解釋給你聽。
Later that evening the doctor came home, read the postcard, fell to the floor with a heart attack.
那天晚上，醫(yī)生回到家，看了那張名信片后便心臟病發(fā)倒在地板上
Paramedics rushed him to the ER. The lead medic stayed back to comfort the wife. He asked what trauma had precipitated the cardiac arrest.
醫(yī)護(hù)人員趕緊送進(jìn)急診室，這時主治醫(yī)生站到醫(yī)生的太太旁邊安慰道：是什么創(chuàng)痛讓他突然心臟病發(fā)?
So the wife picked up the card and read "Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti - Two with sausage and meatballs, two without."
他太太拿起那張名信片，念道"義大利面條，義大利面條，義大利面條，義大利面條，-兩個有附香腸和肉圓，兩個沒有。"

A young couple was becoming anxious about their four-year-old son, who had not yet talked. They took him to specialists, but the doctors found nothing wrong with him.
一對年輕的夫婦對于他們四歲的兒子仍然不會說話這件事非常著急。他們帶他去看專家，但是醫(yī)生們找不出任何不正常的地方。
Then one morning at breakfast the boy suddenly blurted, "Mom, the toast is burned."
之后有一天早上，這個男孩突然說道：“媽媽，面包拷糊了。”
"You talked! You talked!" shouted his mother. "I'm so happy! But why has it taken this long."
“你說話了!你說話了!”他的媽媽嚷道。“我真高興!但是為什么要我們等這么長的時間呢?”
"Well, up till now," said the boy, "things have been okay."
“嗯，直到現(xiàn)在，”男孩說，“每件事都很正常啊。”
